God & Liberation Reading Group

Christian theology and Christian scripture have been used both to oppress and to liberate throughout history. Liberation theology proclaims that the God of the Christian Bible has a preferential option for the poor and marginalized. In 2024, we read some foundational works in different areas of Liberation theology, including works by James Cone, Delores Williams, Gustavo Gutierrez, and Ada Maria Isasi-Diaz.

As me move into 2025, facing the threats of rising fascism, we will be reading more about praxis -- where the theology and the action meet. This month we will be discussing Seeds of Liberation by Alexa Salviterra and Brendan Wrencher.
