Honoring Our Ancestors & Beloved Dead: Altar Building and Ritual

Ancestor remembrance is one of the most important aspects of Samhain/All Souls, yet it so often gets skipped over in the rush of decorating, parties, and trick or treating. Take some time out to remember your beloved ancestors (those known and unknown, biological and chosen) and dearly departed by spending some time building an altar, sharing food and stories. We will spend some time in grief, joy, anger, gratitude, and whatever else you bring with you for the night.

Bring something for the altar to honor who you want to honor and, if you like, some food or drink they enjoyed to share with them and the community. If weather permits, we will be with the altar and a fire.

We recommend that if you bring a picture of the ancestor/beloved dead that there's no one in the photo that's living. In some teachings that's not great for the living…
