About the event

We are an obedient people. We have been taught that obedience keeps us safe. This is fine when it actually does keep us safe without endangering others. However, obedience can be deadly when fascism creeps in.

As so many of us (especially those of us who are white) instinctively obey those in authority and have a tendency to go with our group (whatever that group might be), we are primed to just let fascism march right through. This is why it is good for us to prepare through little acts of disobedience. Tiny rebellions, little acts of resistance. Anarchist Calisthenics.

In an essay that coined the phrase, James C. Scott talks about how we are so primed for obedience that we have to practice disobedience in little ways so that, when the time comes, we are more prepared for disobedience.
